Engaging Blackness in Asian Studies
Call for Proposals
Special Issue of The ASIANetwork Exchange
At this reflective juncture in Asian Studies, ASIANetwork has fostered a number of initiatives that engage the interconnections of Asia with the world and focus on intersectional and justice-oriented themes. Among them, the member-driven Engaging Blackness in Asian Studies Group seeks to explore and challenge how we understand Asian Studies through the framework of Blackness. The Group is now looking for colleagues to join the conversation by contributing to a special issue of The ASIANetwork Exchange.
Possible areas of discussion include:
- Reflections on Blackness in Asian Studies through one’s personal and professional experience
- Key events, persons, and or intersections regarding Blackness in Asia and AAPI Studies
Pedagogical approaches to teaching Blackness in Asian Studies - Theoretical intersections and engagements
- New Frontiers: Afrofuturism and Asian Studies, etc.
Abstracts of no more than 300 words will be accepted until January 1, 2025. Please submit abstracts to Dr. Vincent Gaddis, Elgin Community College.
