ASIANetwork 2025 Early-Career Faculty Development Workshop
The ASIANetwork Early-Career Faculty Development Workshop (Columbus, Ohio; October 9-12, 2025) included 15 participants, selected competitively from a large pool of applicants, all pre-tenure and contingent faculty members from ASIANetwork colleges and other undergraduate teaching-focused institutions.
Under the leadership of co-facilitators K. Christine Pae (Denison University) and Jie Zhang (Trinity University) and through a grant from the Luce Foundation, the workshop included critical discussions on the challenges and rewards, and navigation aids, in working institutionally toward tenure and a fulfilling career in the liberal arts, a syllabus workshop, teaching with technology, grantwriting and boosting the visibility of one’s work, academic publishing, and self-care.
Guest presenters included Shao-yun Yang (Denison University), John Cort (Denison University), Hiroaki Kawamura (The University of Findlay), and Taku Suzuki (Denison University).
Among the goals were to foster community among faculty who are teaching about Asia, Asian languages, and Asian American/AAPI studies at small colleges and universities and to equip them with skills to enhance their roles at their colleges, and infuse content about Asia in undergraduate experiences.
