Asia through the Arts

ASIANetwork sponsors various projects to assist faculty members in using images and artifacts to teach about Asia across the curriculum. New initiatives are in development.

ASIANetwork Art Consultancies
With the generous support of the Henry Luce Foundation, ASIANetwork conducted a series of art consultancies beginning in 2005. ASIANetwork scholars of Asia traveled to member campuses to assist them in identifying Asian art and artifacts from their college collection. By bringing to light these works, institutions learned rich details about their collections, their provenance, and often about the early history of their institutions when these works typically were collected.

Based on the art consultancies, project participants developed an open-access database of images and a book about the use of art and artifacts in undergraduate teaching about Asia.
