Faculty Development Workshops

Faculty Development Workshops

ASIANetwork creates opportunities for teacher-scholars to add depth and breadth to their roles as educators and advance their research and community projects, elevating the possibilities for impactful work with students and peers within the context of the undergraduate liberal arts. ASIANetwork workshops facilitate in-depth training, peer mentorship, and the co-creation of materials to infuse Asian content into curricula and campus life.

Early-Career Faculty Development Workshop

ASIANetwork’s first Early-Career Faculty Development Workshop took place October 9-12, in Columbus, Ohio. Participants were selected competitively from a large pool of applicants, all pre-tenure and contingent faculty members from ASIANetwork colleges and other undergraduate teaching focused institutions. Among the goals are to foster community among faculty who are teaching about Asia, Asian languages, and Asian American/AAPI studies at small colleges and universities and to equip them with skills to enhance and retain their talent at our colleges, and elevate content about Asia in undergraduate experiences.

The workshop was co-facilitated by Christine Pae (Denison University) and Jie Zhang (Trinity University).

Sessions included:

  • a syllabus workshop
  • teaching with technology
  • grantwriting
  • consortial and organizational support
  • academic publishing
  • navigating institutional cultures and leveraging resources toward a fulfilling career in the liberal arts

ASIANetwork is grateful to the Henry Luce Foundation for making this workshop possible. Thanks to Denison’s Departments of East Asian Studies and Religion for additional sponsorship.
