In Honor of Teddy Amoloza

Teodora (Teddy) Amoloza earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, specializing in research methods and statistics and in social demography, where she also carried out post-doctoral research. After joining the faculty of Illinois Wesleyan University, she began a series of research projects involving women in rice farming, in collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute in Los Baños, Laguna (Philippines). She published numerous research articles and is co-editor of two editions of the American Sociological Association's introductory sociology research manual. She taught a variety of courses, including "Introduction to International Studies," "Population and the Environment," "Women in Development," "Methods of Social Research," "Social Statistics," and "Peoples and Cultures of Southeast Asia," in addition to numerous travel courses to places such as the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Western Europe, and Hawai'i. She directed the Illinois Wesleyan University International Studies Program for ten years, directed federal grant programs and a student Asian internship program. She received the Du Pont Award for Teaching Excellence, the university's highest teaching honor.

Dr. Amoloza served on the ASIANetwork Board of Directors, including one year as Chair, and was Director of the ASIANetwork-Freeman Foundation Student-Faculty Fellows Program from 1998 to 2005. For nine years beginning in 2005, she was Executive Director of ASIANetwork, and serves as Finance Officer from 2014 to the present. In 2014, she received the Van J. Symons Distinguished Service Award from ASIANetwork and the Junior Faculty Conference Award was named in recognition of her distinguished contributions to the organization.

A gift was made by colleagues on her retirement from Illinois Wesleyan University, 2022.
