AN Sponsored Sessions At The AAS Annual Conference
AAS has changed its policy regarding sponsored sessions: AAS will continue to offer sponsored sessions, but they will no longer be part of the conference application process. (See below for the full AAS statement.)
As an AAS affiliate-organization, ASIANetwork sponsors one or two organized panels and/or roundtable sessions at the Association for Asian Studies annual conference each year.
Submission Process for the 2021 AAS Annual Conference in Seattle
Upon notification from AAS of the session’s acceptance, submit the session title and abstract along with a list of session members that includes their paper titles and institutional affiliations by email to the AN Executive Director. ASIANetwork will notify AAS of the sessions selected for AN-sponsorship and these sessions will be listed in the AAS conference program as sponsored by ASIANetwork.
ASIANetwork Deadline: November 1, 2020.
AAS Conference Proposal Deadline: See the AAS Website.
Selection Criteria and Details
1. At least one of the proposal’s leaders (organizer, chair, or respondent) must be employed at or retired from an AN member institution.
2. Preference is given to proposals with more than one AN member and an explicit connection to undergraduate education.
AAS Statement on Changes in Sponsored Sessions
The AAS is no longer offering the option to list session sponsorship on proposal submissions. This Board and Program Committee decision was made based on the confusion and misunderstandings that occur each year regarding the weight a “sponsored” session holds during the review process. The sponsorship question field has been removed from the proposal application.
Once the program committee has completed the proposal review process and decisions have been forwarded to session organizers, groups may submit information regarding sponsorship. More information will be shared at that time on how to submit sponsorship information.
