- Kickstart your own Short-term Study Abroad Course
- Develop a rubric for on-site immersive learning
- Generate meaningful site-specific learning outcomes
- Feel the pace of short-term study abroad
- Bring knowledge back to campus
- Improve your existing courses across a range of teaching areas
- Contribute new perspectives and expertise to course proposals
- Build confidence teaching about India’s connections to your curriculum
- Experience “World Religions in India”

This seminar is designed and led by Dr. James Godde (Monmouth College), an experienced director of short-term study abroad programs, and Dr. Nick Tackes (Xavier University), an ethnographer of Indian religions. A full tentative itinerary is below, and includes focused visits with contextual guidance to a suite of key religious and cultural points of interest. Curricular connections are infused throughout the duration of the seminar. The participation fee, including in-country transportation, accommodations, programming, and meals, is only $1,500. (International airfare is on your own.) Qutb Minar in Delhi

Itinerary
The trip begins in Delhi. Architectural marvels including the Qutb Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, and the Lotus Temple will introduce faculty to the history of Islam in India as well as the lesser-known Baha’i faith. After two days of acclimation and orientation, participants will travel by train to Agra, where faculty will continue their tour of prominent Islamic architecture and heritage. After another two days, the group will travel to Jaipur to spend New Years in the famous “Pink City.” A leisurely day of shopping and sightseeing will follow, highlighting Hindu architectural heritage. A morning flight on January 2 will take participants to Rishikesh, at the foothills of the Himalayas. A yoga retreat and visits to several prominent Hindu temples will offer opportunities to learn more about Hindu traditions as well as to rest and recuperate. After this mid-trip recharge, the group will return to Delhi to participate in a scholarly symposium with faculty colleagues affiliated with the All-India Association of Christian Higher Education, a partner consortium to ASIANetwork. In addition to workshopping research and pedagogy, participants will be able to tour at least one campus of these member institutions. After this two-day symposium, the group will travel to its final site, Amritsar, to learn about the Sikh religion and visit its famous Golden Temple. Here, the trip ends, and participants will depart from Amritsar.
Faculty guides will also introduce participants to other major religions such as Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Judaism in the Indian context.
